Wild Child is the newest entry in guy-girl folk duos, or at least that’s how they started. Although the band is a full on six-piece, at heart, it’s still all about the singer-songwriting duo of Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins. They hail from Austin Texas, even more great music from that same area.
The band members are :
Alexander Beggins - Lead vocals, baritone ukulele
Kelsey Wilson - Lead vocals, violin
Evan Magers - Keyboards, vocals
Carey McGraw - Drums, vocals
Sadie Wolfe - Cello
Matthew Mares - Banjo, bells, percussion
The instrumentation of their songs will often include ukulele, bells and hand claps, giving Pillow Talk a playful and youthful tone unlike the somber moods of other folk duos like The Civil Wars or The Swell Season.
But they are still very much in the alt-country genre in my book, although they class themselves as indie folk.
Who really comes up with genre boundaries anyway? As long as they are listenable, which they are very, then what more can you want?
