Django Django

With a name like Django Django you had to know they would attract my attention. But for once a group using the name Django is not a Django Reinhardt stylist. These guys have one thing in common with the aforesaid Mr Reinhardt, they play guitar. But from there on everything is totally different. Listen to this first piece and see if you can keep your feet still and not smile.
This is so cool.

And again totally different this track.

And now this one is a real kick ass track. Psyco-billy kicks the surf out of Bo Diddley. With a touch of Pink Floyd thrown in. Pretty damn cool.

The NME says: Django Django are four men who, among many other things, play guitars, drums, bass, and sing. This is pretty much the only thing they’ve got in common with any other emerging British band right now. We say ‘emerging’, but the Edinburgh art-pop foursome first started garnering new band fizz in 2009. A three-year gestation of hype to album delivery would normally be as fatal to a band as their singer being run over by an articulated truck, but Django Django have emerged from their pupal stage showing off a blinding array of colours, and their debut album takes flight bound for somewhere new.

It’s not, though, somewhere entirely without precedent. The major inspiration on ‘Django Django’ would appear to be the works of The Beta Band. Yup, for some bands The Libertines are Day One. For others it’s the Stones. For Django Django, it’s the now-defunct Scottish indie semi-legends who were as much characterised by their muddy, spliff-friendly tones as their intrepid, far-sighted eclecticism. ...... more

Justice

You have to love the myriad versions of this one song from their new album Audio, Video, Disco.
First up the album version, I think.

On'n'On

Justice - On'n'on by justice

Then of course the very talented Rick Rubin steps in with his mix with the great title.
On 'n' On (Ruined by Rick Rubin)

Then there is a cool version featuring the album art as the graphic.
On'n'On (Brodinski Remix)

Justice, or stylized as Jus†ice is a French electronic music duo consisting of Gaspard Augé (born 21 May 1979 in Besançon, Doubs) and Xavier de Rosnay (born 2 July 1982 in Ozoir-la-Ferrière, Seine et Marne). The duo is one of the most successful groups on Ed Banger Records, and is managed by the label's head, Pedro Winter. Justice is known for incorporating a strong rock and indie influence into their music and image.
Their debut album † was released in June 2007 to critical acclaim. The album was later nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album and came in at number 15 on Pitchfork's Top 50 Albums of 2007 and number 18 on Blender's "25 Best Albums of 2007" list. It was nominated for the 2007 Shortlist Prize, losing out to The Reminder by Feist. Their remix of the MGMT song "Electric Feel" won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2009.
In September 2009, it was announced that Justice would be moving to WMG/Atlantic's newly relaunched Elektra Records label. The band reportedly started working on their second album in mid-2010. Nabiha

Nabiha Bensouda, the award-winning, chart-topping Danish-African pop soul-singer, is currently dominating the pop music scene in Scandinavia and is poised and ready to take on the US.

Nabiha, whose family has both Danish and North-West African roots, grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark listening to a wide variety of music ranging from African lullabies to disco, soul, reggae, rock, R&B, and electronica, all of which are present in Nabiha’s style today. “Deep Sleep” her first single includes one of her mother’s favorite African lullabies. “I grew up with a welcoming, loving, strong mother and grandmother who taught me so much about life. I was constantly inspired by the love of people around me. I feel lucky.”

And you know what? I could see this Danish pastry taking over the US real quick.
A great voice, great poise and charm, a bubbly personality, and great tunes.

Con Maloney

So here's a funny story. I've known this bloke for a little while via Facebook. We both went to the same schools, although some years apart, and we are both from the east end. I don't think he knew I wrote this here thing, and I certainly never knew he was musically inclined.

Then I see a post on his wall of the Mudchute song. I figured it was probably just for a laugh since I had spent many hours of my youth catching newts and frogs at the mud chute.

Then I read the post a bit more intently and realized it is Con who is singing, and sounding all the while that he was from Nashville and not Poplar. So I searched a bit further and found some more of his music. Check him out, who knows maybe the next Glenn Campbell?

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Con Maloney.

This one's more of a late 50's early 60's vibe. But my Dad was Jimmy the One, that's first mate in the merchant navy slang. So it has a personal touch.

Con Maloney on Con Maloney:
Music is my life-long passion. I've played in bands since my teens, now play in duo with my brother Tony, a highly talented guitarist. Trying to concentrate on writing songs more these days, working on lots of old ideas and unfinished pieces when time allows. These are all home demo's, recorded on a Boss 10-track. One day I'll get into a proper studio and get them all down for posterity.

Methinks I've found my next artist of the month.

Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler has come a long way from her sixth place on the fifth season of American Idol. Her third album was released last week and it's a humdinger. Kellie comes across as a bona fide genuine country super star. Just check out her appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.

Tough

And then there was her appearance on Ellen.
Where's Tammy Wynette

Al Daniels

How about some cool jazz vibes for a Saturday evening?
Who's cooler than Al Daniels? Nobody I know.

Performing mostly in the Los Angeles area, Al Daniels leads his own ensemble. Most recently he has appeared providing keyboards for saxophonist Ronnie Laws, and the award winning jazz group CJS Quintet. Daniels formed the Vehicle Band (featured on "Feliz" and "The Way It Is") with musicians from San Diego and wrote original music for that band. His CD's "Life in the Balance" and "Themes in Search of a Movie" are solo projects that feature Daniels originals music and great musicians from LA. As co-founder/keyboardist/arranger of the Riverside-San Bernardino group JASPER he wrote original music for that group which featured stellar reed players such as Gerald Albright, Everette Harp, Brandon Fields, Steve Tavaglione and many others.

So kick back and watch the river flow and enjoy the vibe.

Jessie Baylin

Jessie Baylin is a Nashville based singer/songwriter although she is originally from Gillette, New Jersey. Jessie is a beautiful young lady who visually reminds me of a young Marianne Faithful, and that is true beauty. Her debut album You was produced by Grammy Award winner Jesse Harris. Jessie and her band have toured with and performed with Marc Broussard, James Morrison, Dolores O'Riordan, Brett Dennen, Animal Liberation Orchestra, Teitur, and Newton Faulkner just to name a few.
Her song "So Hard" from You was featured on the popular television show, "Army Wives" on Lifetime.
Baylin signed her first major label record deal with Verve Forecast. 'Firesight' was released on June 24, 2008 and debuted #34 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart.
And her latest opus came out 10 days ago. It's called Little Spark, but I'm thinking it's gonna create a big spark.

Hurry Hurry

Here's a trailer for her new album.

I Feel That Too

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey has finally brought her album to release, not sure why there appears to be so many haters, this girl is talented. Young, gifted and beautiful maybe that kicks of the jealousy. Just my opinion but generally everybody on Saturday Night Live is more often bad than they are good. Can't remember the lat time that show was good. Must be the atmosphere. But forget that, this album was worth the wait.

Adey

I'm not sure how I missed this beautiful album released around the middle of 2011. But somehow I did, but I'm making up time now with it on the good old Winamp player.
So if like me you missed it, do yourself a favor and seek out the album "Rogue" you'll be glad you did.

Check out this beautiful track.
Daybreak

Hey

Adey sings her song "Hey," from her new album "Rogue," distributed by Sacred Mysteries in Ashland Oregon. Her brother Moe Town is on drums. Vincent Bierbach is producing, video by Alexander Polnsky

The beautiful and talented Adey debuts her first album "Rogue" with Sacred Mysteries. This is the first song on the album titled "Daybreak". The album is available at sacredmysteries(dot)com. This is also a scene from the forthcoming Sacred Mysteries feature film titled "Shasta". Adey also has one of the lead roles in the film.

Rogue by Adey is one of the most spiritually and physically uplifting new albums in many a year. Adey is not only a gifted songwriter who's lyrics and music paint pictures of lightness and dark, leading us into soaring above the clouds and spelunking the dark depths of the soul; but she is also a gifted singer and performer. Adey has captured the zeitgeist and is reflecting it back like a mirror for all of us to see. Rogue by Adey is hopeful, desperate, exalting and numinous and much more.

Finally today a great cover tune.
Why Don't We Do It In The Road

Well that wasn't quiet the final finally for today.
Why not listen to the album while you are here?

“She takes delight in her playing. It might be a delight to do the wondrous with pleasure and ease. Perfect, perfect; piano playing and singing. We don’t see this much. Only in nature..”
-Michael Hurley

Smith & Frank

Where on earth have these pair come from? Smith & Frank is, Toby Meadows and Taija Marie Davis and their home-made ambient indie pop is a one of a kind sound flowing through Brisbane's ears at the moment.

After a night of rain and wine, with the help of a built-in MacBook microphone, they discovered their sound was something special with 'Sorry For Being Brief'. The better part of instruments are found in household items and oddities lying around, giving their sound a raw and powerful feel. The following weeks saw plenty of writing and studio time then the release of their debut single - 'Charlie'. And people are loving it! Losing their radio play virginity with The Sunday Washup with Dave and Kieren last week, they've been overwhelmed with the reponse and are frantically gathering more material and setting up what is sure to be a live show like none other.

I'v known Taija for quite a while now (via the internet) but didn't realize she was so talented.

Check out a couple of their tunes.

This could be the best solution

I'm sure they could be no worse than the above.  Especially the four that are still there.

Graziella Schazad

This young lady comes to us today because a friend recommended I take a listen to her. I'm really glad he did, Graziella Schazad is a talented musician. Note I said musician not just singer, she plays the guitar and violin as well as singing. She hails from Germany with a Polish mother and an Afghani father and she sings in English, a true multi-national. Give her a listen she will make your ears happy.

Finally today the cool live appearance in Hamburg
I want peace

Live bei der Autogrammstunde bei Saturn in Hamburg

The twenty five year old singer songwriter was born in Berlin to a Polish mother and an Afghani father. Graziella Schazad started playing the guitar at the age of 3 and the violin at the age of 4. When she was nine years old her mother finally bought her the longed-for piano and she started taking lessons…
In 1995 she became an external student at the Hanns Eisler Conservatory of Music and studied the classical violin as well as the classical piano. When she turned thirteen she started writing her first songs and, ever since has put every painful as well as joyous experience into one of her very personal but yet easily accessible songs. In 2001 she quit her classical studies to team up with a duo, touring and performing throughout Europe. After the duo-breakup in 2004 she decided to take her career into her own hands, moved to Hamburg and started composing her first solo album. [Last FM]

Misstress Barbara

Barbara Bonfiglio, better known as Misstress Barbara (the misspelling is an intentional portmanteau [i.e. "miss" and "stress"]), is an Italian-born, Canadian electronica disc jockey. Born in 1975, she moved from Sicily to Montreal, Quebec at the age of eight, and has resided in the city ever since. She has also produced and DJ'd house music under the alias Barbara Brown, and has used the alias My Prada Heels.
So if you are in the mood for some house music, you are in some great hands with Misstress Barbara.

This has to be one of the hippest versions of this Leonard Cohen classic, of course the original is still the best.

Wes Bryan

I'm feeling in a bit of a nostalgic frame of mind today, so I've been listening to lots of old rock n roll and rockabilly tunes all day. Which for some reason took me to Wes Bryan's web page.
Which in turn got me to thinking maybe I should feature some more of his catalog as a companion piece to the earlier post.
As always we can rely on oldolds53 to provide us with some interesting visuals, if it's rock n roll he's got it..
And of course Wes will always provide us with some great tunes and vocals.

Blue Baby

This song is dedicated to Wes and his family. It was recorded 1959 in Norman Petty's studios, but first published 1999 by UK Ace Records.
The people backing Wes seem to be Sonny Curtis on guitar,Joe B. on bass,Jerry Allison on drums and finally The Roses on backing vocals.
Could you get a better backup than The Crickets! oldolds53

Honey Baby

I Just Want Your Love

This one also recorded at Norman Petty's studio with same backing as mentioned above.
Who could miss that Crickets sounding guitar?
