WoW! Am I loving this band. Taylor Project hails from Melbourne/Elmore, Victoria, Australia.
And they are a Country / Rock / Americana band.
Taylor Project are:
Sarah Taylor (acoustic guitar, lead vocals)
Liz Taylor (mandolin, fiddle, backing vocals)
Andrew Bonnici (lap steel, banjo, electric guitar)
Scott Boydle (percussion and drums)
Jason Emilianowicz (bass)
And best of all they make amazing music. (And some pretty good videos). All that and they have a great new album out, “Life, Death, Prizes”.
We are the Swimmers
The "We are the Swimmers" film clip is made up of three hours of time lapse footage capturing the sun fading into dusk, and twilight, and eventually into pitch black at at a river bank. The location is the Campaspe River in Elmore, at the spot that was for the inspiration for the song. Sarah, Liz and Juliette sometimes pop up in and around the river. From the Taylor Project album "Life, Death, Prizes". [Taylor Project]
Bacteria
"Bacteria" by Taylor Project, from "Life, Death, Prizes" (2011). Animation by Andrew Bonnici.
The song "Bacteria" was inspired by the 1970s cult anthology "Wisconsin Death Trip".
The infectious disease diphtheria, which has the particular distinction of mainly killing children under 5, features regularly in the book. It killed tens of thousands of children every year at the time of the "Wisconsin Death Trip" subject matter (the 1890s).The particular inspiration for the song is a piece that reads:
"The little child of Newton and Etta Riggs Loomis was removed to the home of its grandparents, Mr and Mrs J.C. Loomis, after diphtheria was pronounced to be in the home of Mrs Ann Riggs, in the hopes that it might escape the dread disease. But the monster followed it and the child died, Monday, aged 2 years".[Taylor Project]
Ballad of a Barmaid
Film clip for "Ballad of a Barmaid" (alternative title: "The Six O'Clock Swill"), from the Taylor Project album "Life, Death, Prizes". Film clip made quickly by Sarah, using footage from the Dan O'Connell Hotel open mic night, and images from Australian state library archives.
